MOTIVATION

Complexity Science has a privileged position to contribute to the advance of knowledge in social and economic systems. In this context, big data generated by Information Technologies has brought an unprecedented opportunity to explore human interactions and to better understand social and economic systems. Furthermore, the presence of new technologies provides new means of effective interaction among people and triggers the emergence of new social phenomena. In this context and as part of the activity of the SocioComplex network, the summer school will provide specific training on this new fast developing field addressed to Master and PhD students and to young postdocs.  In particular, the school will cover the following 4 main courses:

  • Experimental Economics, by Alberto Antonioni, Departamento de Matemáticas, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain.
  • Urban Systems, by Elsa Arcaute, The Bartlett Center for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA), University College London UCL, UK.
  • Computational Social Sciences, by Nicola Perra, Queen Mary University, UK.
  • Epidemic Modeling, by Eugenio Valdano, Pierre Louis Institute of Epidemiology and Public Health of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and Sorbonne Université, France.

Courses include one hour daily sessions in the mornings. The work language is English. The School will additionally comprise seminars and hands-on sessions in the afternoon. Participants are required to attend the full duration of the school and they are encouraged to present their research as a poster.

On this edition the school will be preceded on the previous week by the X GEFENOL Summer School on Statistical Physics of Complex Systems.

There is a registration fee of 120 euros to attend the school. Join registration for this School and the one Statistical Physics of Complex Systems is available at a discounted rate of 200 euros.  Lunch and coffee breaks on working days for all participants will be covered by the organization. Participants will have to cover the lodging expenses. A special fare has been arranged with the UIB Student Residence.
